We are Mike and Eileen Evans a husband and wife team, who moved to The Orkney Isles in 2003 after visiting this beautiful island, see Visit Orkney. We are originally from South Wales and I have been a self taught woodturner for over 25 years and a member of the "Association of Woodturners of Great Britain", Eileen also enjoys working with Fabrics and Wood, especially that of the Yew Tree with its beautiful colours and grains, and it was where the name of our business 'Yew & ME Crafts' derived from.
Since last year we have incorporated the 'New 100% Orkney Wool Tweed' into our products, with Clocks having the Orkney Tweed Faces, Lamp Bases in various sizes to support the Orkney Tweed Lampshades produced by Nancy Fergus, also Embroidered Cushions & Pictures from Orkney Tweed and other fabrics, having found that the Wood & Tweed enhance each other.
Added to this, my passion of turning Hollow Forms, bowls and platters made from Orkney Sycamore and native Scottish Hardwoods, there is also the added challenge of converting Driftwood treasures into unusual and unique Lamps which all make for very busy days.
Some of our products can be found at, The Orkney Tweed Shop in Kirwall, Castaway Crafts in Dounby, the Orkney Brewery at Quoyloo, the Standing Stones Hotel at Stenness and as usual at our NEW home at Savedale, Sandwick just at the Crossroads by Sandwick Hall
